Report: Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante had surgery

Kansas City Royals second baseman Omar Infante had bone chips removed from his right elbow in November, according to Fox Sports.

Infante is expected to be fully recovered from the surgery in time for the start of spring training.

The Royals have not announced that Infante had the surgery.

Infante has had shoulder pain both seasons he has been in Kansas City. The team believes he altered his throwing motion because of elbow pain from the bone chips. That, in turn, caused the shoulder soreness.

The 34-year-old infielder missed the final stretch of the regular season and all of the playoffs because of a strained left oblique on Sept. 18. The Royals went on to win the World Series.

Prior to the 2014 season, Infante signed a four-year, $30.25 million deal but has been plagued with injuries. He has only produced a .596 OPS in the first two seasons of the deal.

Despite Infante's struggles, he may get his starting spot back with the departure of Ben Zobrist, who signed a free-agent deal with the Chicago Cubs.
