Miami Dolphins, GM Dennis Hickey part ways

By The Sports Xchange

The Miami Dolphins and general manager Dennis Hickey have agreed to part ways, the team announced Saturday.

Hickey has served as GM for the past two seasons, during which time the Dolphins have gone 13-18. Coach Joe Philbin was fired after the team started 1-3 this season, and the Dolphins are 5-10 entering their finale vs. the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Director of college scouting Chris Grier, who has been with Miami for 15 seasons, is expected to be the next general manager, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Hickey's future had been uncertain since owner Stephen Ross hired former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum as vice president of football operations last year.

The team spent lavishly last offseason to create a playoff contender, guaranteeing more than $125 million to quarterback Ryan Tannehill, center Mike Pouncey and free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. But the investments did not pay off this season.

"I want to thank Dennis for his work over the last two years. We talked about a number of different possibilities; but, at the end, we reached this agreement," Tannenbaum said in a statement released by the team Saturday.

Hickey said, "Over the past week, I have had a number of conversations with the Dolphins organization about my role in the team. Ultimately the Dolphins and I agreed that it would be best if we parted ways. I will always be proud of our accomplishments in Miami, including many key additions to the team through the draft and free agency."
