A spot on the U.S. Olympic basketball team has been guaranteed to the Cleveland Cavaliers star. The decision is now his to make, according to USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo.

Colangelo told ESPN on Tuesday that he has no problem waiting for James to make a decision on playing in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil until after this upcoming season.

"He will be in town during the course of this week?," Colangelo said. "He won't be participating in any practices to the best of my knowledge, but ... he knows he has a [roster] spot.

"If he wants to perform -- and I believe deep down inside he does -- then I would expect that he will be playing for us next summer."

James did not attend Monday's team meeting, which was scheduled before players took the court Tuesday on the campus of UNLV. To qualify to play in 2016 for the U.S. team, all James has to do is make an appearance in Las Vegas.
