Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden said during Wednesday's combine press conference that he anticipates Robert Griffin III being the starting quarterback heading into the 2015 season.

"Robert ended the season as our starter and we anticipate that going forward," Gruden said.

Griffin, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, went 2-5 in seven starts last season and missed several weeks due to a dislocated ankle. He played in nine games and threw for 1,694 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions.

Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy also spent time under center for the Redskins in 2014, leading to speculation about Griffin's future in Washington.

"We'll go into the season with Robert as the No. 1 guy, obviously," Gruden said. "Then it's up to Robert to continue to grow and mature as a quarterback and a person. And moving forward just want to see some improvement. That's up to us as a staff to get more out of him."

Griffin has regressed since his rookie season in 2012 when he threw for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He won the NFL offensive rookie of the year award, but tore his ACL in the playoffs that season.
