NBA: Los Angeles Lakers 107, Boston 104

BOSTON, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Kendall Marshall put Los Angeles in front by hitting a 3-pointer with 1:10 remaining Friday and the Lakers held on to defeat Boston 107-104.

Los Angeles ended a six-game losing streak in what turned out to be the season debut of Boston's Rajon Rondo.

Rondo, who had not played since tearing a knee ligament Jan. 25, 2013, scored eight points and missed out on a chance for a big finish when his 3-point attempt to tie it up misfired at the buzzer.

Pau Gasol scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace the Lakers. Ryan Kelly added 20 points off the bench and Marshall had 19 points to go with 14 assists.

Los Angeles played without Nick Young, who served a one-game suspension for throwing punches during a loss to Phoenix Wednesday.

Kelly Olynyk had 25 points off the bench for the Celtics, who have won just once in 11 games.
