Djokovic doesn't miss a beat, advances at Rogers Cup

MONTREAL, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Novak Djokovic breezed through his second-round match against Germany's Florian Mayer at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

Djokovic, playing in his first match since Wimbledon, sent the crowd home early by dispatching his overmatched opponent 6-2, 6-1 in 55 minutes.

"As the match went on, I felt more comfortable on the court," said Djokovic. "That's something that makes me happy. Obviously to win the first match after four weeks, first match on hard courts since Miami basically this year, that's something that makes me happy."

Djokovic had seven break-point saves in the match and rallied from a triple-break-point deficit in the final game to run his record this year to 40-6.

No. 7 seed Richard Gasquet, the runner-up at the Rogers Cup last year, also had little trouble in his second-round bout with Martin Klizan, with the Frenchman cruising to a 6-3, 6-2 victory in 84 minutes.

Ninth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 decision over Italian Andreas Seppi.

Also advancing were 10th-seeded Tommy Haas of Germany and No. 11 seed Milos Raonic of Canada.
