PARIS, June 2 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Roger Federer needed five sets to gain the quarterfinals and No. 4 David Ferrer also advanced Sunday at the French Open.
Federer found himself trailing 2-sets-to-1 deep into his nearly 3-hour match against Frenchman Gilles Simon but then regrouped for a 6-1, 4-6, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph at Stade Roland Garros, securing his 36th straight Grand Slam quarterfinals berth.
