No. 3 seed Bernard Tomic was also an upset victim, losing to Thomaz Bellucci 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
In another second-round match Thursday, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe defeated former Mercedes Cup champion Jeremy Chardy 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3.
