WASHINGTON, June 17 (UPI) -- Ivan Nova baffled the Nationals on one run over 7 2/3 innings Sunday in the New York Yankees' 4-1 interleague win over Washington.

Nova (9-2) won his fifth straight start and became the first American League pitcher to reach the nine-win plateau with the performance, during which he allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out four.

Boone Logan recorded the final out of the eighth inning and Rafael Soriano collected his 13th save for the Yankees, who maintained their 1 1/2-game lead in the American League East with the victory.

Curtis Granderson's solo homer in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie. Robinson Cano also went deep and Mark Teixeira went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the victory.

Edwin Jackson (3-4) absorbed the loss despite yielding only two runs on seven hits over six innings for the NL East-leading Nationals.

Adam LaRoche homered to provide Washington's only run.
