"We flew under the radar at Indy, but had a really fast car there and I think the car has been good on every type of track," Tagliani said. "It's looking good for the rest of the year."

This was the first IndyCar pole for Tagliani.

Graham Rahal qualified third and Scott Dixon was fourth. Dixon won Sunday's race in Michigan, which had to be shortened due to track surface damage.

Points leader Will Power will be fifth on the starting grid, followed by James Hinchcliffe, Tony Kanaan and Mike Conway.
