MLB: Baltimore 6, Washington 5

WASHINGTON, May 19 (UPI) -- Adam Jones and Nick Markakis each bashed a two-run homer Saturday and the Baltimore Orioles hung on for a 6-5 interleague victory over Washington.

Jones (3-for-4) delivered his homer in the third inning and Markakis followed with his shot in the fifth, staking the Orioles to a 6-0 lead.

Robert Andino contributed a two-run single among his two hits for the American League East-leading Orioles, who posted their fifth straight win and seventh victory in nine contests overall.

Jason Hammel (5-1) got the win despite yielding four runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Rick Ankiel chased Hammel in the sixth with a one-out RBI double that cut Baltimore's lead to 6-2. Carlos Maldonado and Roger Bernadina followed with RBI off reliever Luis Ayala.

Ryan Zimmerman (3-for-5) belted a solo homer in the ninth off Jim Johnson, but the Baltimore closer went on to finish out his 15th save.

Steve Lombardozzi and Bernadina each finished with two hits and an RBI for the Nationals, who dropped their third straight.
