NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- Andy Pettitte, in his second start since coming out of retirement, threw eight shutout innings Friday to bring the New York Yankees a 4-0 win over Cincinnati.
Pettitte (1-1) threw 78 of his 115 pitches for strikes, gave up four hits and struck out nine. In his other start this season he allowed four runs while suffering a loss against Seattle.
This was his first victory since July 8, 2010.
A groundout by Alex Rodriguez in the opening inning brought home Curtis Granderson with New York's first run. Robinson Cano hit a solo homer in the eighth and Raul Ibanez added a two-run shot later in the same inning.
New York snapped a three-game losing streak and handed the Reds their second straight setback.
Boone Logan completed the shutout by working a perfect ninth in a non-save situation. The loss went to Bronson Arroyo (2-2), who surrendered four runs on nine hits in 7 2/3 innings.
