MLB: Kansas City 3, Detroit 2

DETROIT, May 2 (UPI) -- Mike Moustakas scored on an infield hit with two out in the ninth Wednesday, allowing the Kansas City Royals to claim a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Kansas City pitching allowed just one hit -- a two-out, fifth-inning double by Alex Avila -- and was up 2-0 going into the eighth. But Austin Jackson led off with a single and Brennan Boesch followed with his fourth home run of the year to tie the score.

Detroit reliever Joaquin Benoit (0-1) got the first out in the ninth before Moustakas doubled. He moved to third on an out that brought up Chris Getz.

Getz battled through an eight-pitch at bat before sending a soft liner to deep short. He easily beat the throw to first and Moustakas scored.

Tim Collins (1-0) got the last two outs in the Detroit eighth in picking up the win and Jonathan Broxton collected his fourth save with the help of a ninth-inning double play. Royals starter Jonathan Sanchez pitched five innings of one-hit ball.
