CHICAGO, April 13 (UPI) -- Chicago starter Jake Peavy gave up just two hits Friday and the White Sox used late rallies to secure a 5-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Peavy (1-0) took a one-hitter and a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning when he walked Miguel Cabrera with one out. After another out, Delmon Young connected for a home run and Peavy was pulled.

He'd retired the first 10 Detroit batters -- striking out five. The only other Tiger to reach base against Peavy was Young, who was hit by a pitch in the fifth and then caught stealing. The walk to Cabrera was the only one Peavy allowed and he finished with nine strikeouts.

Hector Santiago got the final three outs for his third save of the year as the Tigers lost for just the second time this season.

Max Scherzer (0-1), the Detroit starter, gave up five hits and three runs over six innings.

Dayan Viciedo hit a two-out home run in the fifth for the game's first run. Alejandro De Aza walked to open the sixth and, after a sacrifice and a strike out, scored on a Paul Konerko single. Konerko made the score 3-0 when A.J. Pierzynski tripled.

After the Tigers pulled within 3-2, De Aza tripled in the eighth and was driven in by Brent Morel. Morel later scored on a wild pitch.
