NHL: New Jersey 5, Pittsburgh 2

NEWARK, N.J., Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Ilya Kovalchuk continued his recent hot streak with a goal and two assists Sunday in the New Jersey Devils' 5-2 win over Pittsburgh.

Kovalchuk's tally only 2 1/2 minutes into the game broke a scoreless tie and put the Devils ahead to stay.

With Sunday's output, the Russian winger has 10 points in his last four games, all of which have resulted in New Jersey victories.

Zach Parise contributed a goal and an assist while Anton Volchenkov and Dainius Zubrus also found the net for the Devils.

Martin Brodeur turned aside 28-of-30 shots to earn the win and picked up an assist on David Clarkson's empty-net goal.

Evgeni Malkin and Matt Niskanen scored for the Penguins, who lost for just the second time in 11 games.

Marc-Andre Fleury started in net for Pittsburgh but was yanked after yielding three goals on 12 shots.

Brent Johnson relieved and stopped 11-of-12 shots the rest of the way.
