NEW YORK, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Ryan Callahan scored two goals and added an assist Monday, powering the New York Rangers to their first home win of the season, 5-2 over San Jose.
Callahan's first goal came at the end of a second-period power-play and put the Rangers ahead for good a 3-2.
After Artem Anisimov made it 4-2 on a backhander less than 3 minutes later, Callahan netted his second goal with 48 seconds remaining in the middle frame, putting in the rebound of a Brad Richards shot while falling.
Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh scored and Martin Biron turned aside 24-of-26 shots for the Rangers, who notched their initial victory at the newly refurbished Madison Square Garden.
Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture tallied for the Sharks, whose bid to finish a six-game road trip unbeaten came up short.
Antti Niemi made 26 saves for San Jose.
