TORONTO, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Jose Molina singled in Brett Lawrie from second with one out in the ninth inning Friday, giving Toronto a 5-4 victory over the New York Yankees.
The Blue Jays handed New York its second straight loss, overcoming an early 3-1 deficit and producing the winning run off Boone Logan (5-3). The New York lead over Boston in the American League East was trimmed to 3 1/2 games.
Adam Lind, who gave Toronto a 4-3 lead in the fifth with a three-run double, had another double to lead off the ninth.
Adam Loewen came on as a pinch-runner for Lind and Lawrie drew an intentional walk. Colby Rasmus then grounded back to Logan on the mound and he forced Loewen at third.
Cory Wade was summoned from the bull pen to face Molina, who hit Wade's third pitch up the middle for the single that ended the game.
New York took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Nick Swisher and a two-run homer by Eric Chavez. Swisher singled in another run in the sixth to forge a 4-4 tie.
Casey Janssen (5-0) retired all six men he faced in the eighth and ninth innings to get the win.
