NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Rain disrupted the U.S. Open for a second straight day Wednesday, delaying the women's quarterfinal matches for Serena Williams and others.

After losing all of Tuesday's play due to inclement weather, action was halted again after only 15 minutes of men's tournament play due to steady rain.

The delay came after Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick each complained to tournament officials about being sent out to start their matches in the damp conditions.

After waiting through most of day, officials finally canceled play for the day for the men's slate, while the women's play was rescheduled for Wednesday evening.

The women's slate for Wednesday included Williams facing Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in an evening quarterfinal and world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki taking on Andrea Petkovic.
