MIAMI, June 20 (UPI) -- Jack McKeon, who first managed a team in 1973 and most recently led Florida in 2005, has been named interim manager of the Marlins.

The Florida manager's position came open Sunday when Edwin Rodriguez resigned with the team at 32-39. The Marlins lost Sunday under bench coach Brandon Hyde. They have lost their last 10 and 20 of their last 22.

"We've been going through some tough times ... but there's enough talent in that room, if we get things right, to play in October," McKeon said Monday. "I see this club as one that's pressing a little bit. I want them to have some fun."

McKeon, 80, first managed in the major leagues in Kansas City from 1973 to 1975. He has also managed Oakland (1977-78), San Diego (1988-90), Cincinnati (1997-2000) and Florida (2003-05).

He led the Marlins to the 2003 World Series title and owns an overall 1,011-940 managerial record. He was National League Manager of the Year in 1999, when the Reds were 96-67 but finished second in the NL Central, and 2003.

McKeon isn't expected to be retained for next season, when the Marlins move to a new stadium.
