MLB: Tampa Bay 2, Florida 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 19 (UPI) -- James Shields tossed a complete-game four-hitter Sunday and the Tampa Bay Rays completed a three-game interleague sweep of Florida with a 2-1 victory.

Shields (7-4) dominated the Marlins, pitching his second straight complete game and fifth of the season while yielding only one unearned run.

The Rays right-hander didn't issue a walk and struck out 10, lowering his ERA to 2.40, third-best in the American League.

Tampa Bay broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth when Matt Joyce collected a lead-off single against Ryan Webb (1-4), went to second on an out and scored when Casey Kotchman doubled off Randy Choate.

Florida starter Chris Volstad pitched well, yielding only one run on six hits over seven innings, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Marlins' 10th straight loss and 18th in 19 game.

The team announced before the game that Manager Edwin Rodriguez had resigned amid the losing streak. Bench coach Brandon Hyde managed the club Sunday.
