DETROIT, April 24 (UPI) -- Max Scherzer handcuffed the White Sox for eight innings Sunday and the Detroit Tigers swept a three-game series with a 3-0 victory over Chicago.
Scherzer (4-0) held Chicago scoreless over eight innings, fanning seven while walking three. He was working on a no-hitter through the first four innings before yielding a single to A.J. Pierzynski.
The Tigers got two hits and an RBI from Austin Jackson while Alex Avila and Brandon Inge each drove in a run. Detroit downed the White Sox for the ninth straight time -- their longest winning streak over Chicago since 1923.
Chisox starter John Danks (0-3) surrendered three runs on nine hits over six innings.
The White Sox lost for the 10th time in 11 games despite two hits from Pierzynski and Juan Pierre.
