BOSTON, April 10 (UPI) -- Josh Beckett fired eight shutout innings Sunday and the Boston Red Sox improved to 2-7 with a 4-0 whitewash of the New York Yankees.
Beckett (1-1) retired the last 14 batters he faced en route to the victory, in which dominated the Yankees by allowing only two hits, walking one and fanning 10.
Marco Scutaro stroked a two-run double in the seventh inning, giving the Red Sox a 3-0 lead, and Boston also got RBIs from Mike Cameron and David Ortiz to take the rubber contest of a three-game series at Fenway Park.
Boston's 1-7 record coming into the game represented the team's worst start since 1945.
Yankees starter CC Sabathia (0-1) absorbed the loss despite allowing only one run on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out four.
