Wozniacki, Stosur advance with Miami wins

MIAMI, March 27 (UPI) -- Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki and No. 4 seed Samantha Stosur each notched wins Saturday to advance in third-round play of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

Wozniacki, the top seed in Miami, got by Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova thanks to a second-set tiebreaker, managing to pull out a 6-1, 7-6 (9-7) victory over the No. 29 seed.

Stosur almost blew a 5-2 second-set lead but managed to close out a straight-set win over 30th-seeded Lucie Safarova 6-0, 7-6 (7-1) and advance to face No. 16 Maria Sharapova.

Sharapova gained the fourth round after taking just 58 minutes to down wild-card Sabine Lisicki 6-2, 6-0.

Sixth-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia rebounded from a 4-5 deficit in the first set to win nine of the next 10 games and defeat Klara Zakopalova 7-5, 6-1.

Anabel Medina Garrigues drew Jankovic after downing Elena Vesnina 6-3, 6-4.

Other Day 4 winners included Peng Shuai, who bounced No.11 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 6-1, and Alexandra Dulgheru, who dispatched Johanna Larsson 6-2, 6-1.
