Wozniacki wins seventh straight match

MIAMI, March 24 (UPI) -- Caroline Wozniacki, ranked No. 1 in the world and coming off a victory last week, reached the third round Thursday at the Sony Ericsson Open.

Wozniacki defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-2, 7-5 to win her seventh straight match. She has 14 victories in her last 15 outings.

Daniela Hantuchova set up a third-round meeting with Wozniacki by defeating Melanie Oudin 6-1, 6-3.

Maria Sharapova, seeded 16th, advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Petra Martic. Sabine Lisicki will next meet Sharapova, having moved on when Nadia Petrova retired in the third set due to dizziness.

French Open runner-up Samantha Stosur breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Jie Zheng and Jelena Jankovic ousted Monica Niculescu 6-3, 6-1.

In the day's biggest surprise Johanna Larson outlasted Australian Open runner-up Li Na 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5).

Other second-round winners included Anabel Medina Garrigues, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Peng Shuai, Andrea Petkovic, Elena Vesnina, Alexandra Dulgheru and Lucie Safarova.
