NEW YORK, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Johan Hedberg had to make just 15 saves in picking up his second shutout of the season Friday, carrying New Jersey to a 1-0 victory over the New York Rangers.
The Devils have a 14-1-2 record over their last 17 games and have won six in a row. After a terrible start to the season, they began the night 12 games out of a playoff position.
The contest's only goal came from Ilya Kovalchuk midway through the second period.
Hedberg has 16 shutouts in a 10-year, 321-game career.
New York's Henrik Lundqvist stopped 27-of-28 shots and the Rangers lost for the seventh time in nine outings. The Rangers still lead the season series with the Devils 3-2.
