NBA: LA Lakers 92, Boston 86

BOSTON, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Kobe Bryant scored six straight points in the final minutes Thursday to lift the Los Angeles Lakers over Boston 92-86 on a record-setting night for Ray Allen.

Allen needed two long-range shots to become the NBA's all-time leading 3-point shooter and the Boston point guard achieved the feat with 1:41 to play in the first period.

He hit three 3-pointers overall to give him 2,562 for his career. That breaks the record held by Reggie Miller, who was part of the national television crew that worked the game.

Jason Kidd (1,752) and Peja Stojakovic (1,719), who both play for the Dallas Mavericks, are a distant third and fourth on the all-time, 3-point list.

Allen's record was a major sideshow to a significant meeting between teams with NBA title aspirations. Los Angeles won its third straight, all on the road at the start of a seven-game trip, and avenged a 13-point home setback to the Celtics Jan. 30.

Los Angeles battled back from a 15-point deficit in the second period and had a three-point lead when Bryant made a turnaround jumper with 4:52 remaining. He hit another jump shot with 3:53 to play and then scored on a layup with 3:18 left to give the Lakers an 88-79 advantage.

Bryant finished with 23 points, Pau Gasol had 20 for the Lakers and Andrew Bynum contributed 16.

The Celtics, who lost at home for just the fifth time this season, were led by Allen with 20 points. Paul Pierce had 15.
