NHL: Nashville 4, Detroit 1

DETROIT, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Pekka Rinne made 34 saves and allowed only a second-period goal Wednesday in carrying Nashville to a 4-1 victory over Detroit.

The Predators built a 4-0 lead midway through the second period and went on to pick up just their second win in seven games. Both of those victories have come against the Red Wings.

Martin Erat and David Legwand delivered first-period goals and Colin Wilson made it a 3-0 game 63 seconds into the middle period. Sergei Kostitsyn scored on the power play for the Predators before Detroit managed its only goal from Ruslan Salei.

Salei has played in 52 of Detroit's 54 games this season and this was the first goal of the campaign for the 14-year veteran defenseman. He is playing his first year with the Red Wings and has never scored more than six goals in a season.

Detroit lost for the third time in four games. Jimmy Howard gave up four goals on 16 shots before being lifted for Joey MacDonald.
