COL BKB: Marquette 76, Syracuse 70

MILWAUKEE, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Jimmy Butler and Darius Johnson-Odom each made 3-pointers late in the game Saturday and Marquette went on to edge No. 10 Syracuse 76-70.

The contest was tied 66-66 with less than 2 minutes remaining when Butler canned a trey off a Johnson-Odom feed to put the Golden Eagles ahead for good, and after a C.J. Fair turnover, Johnson-Odom connected on another long one to make it 72-66.

Joe Crowder scored 25 points, Butler finished with 19 and eight rebounds and Johnson-Odom added 17 points for Marquette (14-8, 5-4 Big East), which bolstered its NCAA Tournament chances with the big win.

Struggling Syracuse (18-4, 5-4), meanwhile, lost a fourth straight game for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

Kris Joseph scored 18 points and Rick Jackson chipped in with 14 for the Orange.
