NBA: New Orleans 92, Orlando 89 (OT)

NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Marcus Thornton hit two free throws with 7 seconds left in overtime Wednesday and New Orleans survived a last-second 3-point attempt to defeat Orlando 92-89.

The Magic had their club-record equaling, nine-game winning streak come to an end.

The Hornets led by as many as nine points in the fourth period but were left with just a three-point cushion when Chris Paul could make only 1-of-2 free throws with 15 seconds left.

Orlando's Hedo Turkoglu then hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left in regulation to force the extra period.

Jason Richardson hit a layup for the Magic with 59 seconds to go in overtime to give them an 89-88 lead but Orlando could not score another point.

Thornton made a jumper with 32 seconds left and his free throws lifted New Orleans to a three-point cushion. J.J. Redick missed a 3-point try that would have brought about a second overtime.

Thornton scored 22 points to lead the Hornets, who won their second straight. Emeka Okafor added 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Dwight Howard paced Orlando with 29 points and 20 rebounds.
