NHL: Florida 4, Buffalo 3

BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Jason Garrison scored with 5:07 to play Thursday, allowing the Florida Panthers to survive a second-period meltdown and defeat Buffalo 4-3.

The Panthers took a 3-0 lead after one period and then let the entire advantage get away in the second.

The game appeared headed for overtime before Garrison scored unassisted for his second goal of the season.

Chris Higgins had two goals and assist for the Panthers, who have won three times in their last four outings. The first of those three victories came last week against Buffalo.

Tomas Vokoun made 45 saves and stopped all 19 shots he saw during the third period.

Jordan Leopold produced two of the second-period goals for the Sabres, losers of three out of four. Ryan Miller, who was trying for his 200th career victory, stopped 25 shots for Buffalo.
