NHL: Pittsburgh 5, Florida 2

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Sidney Crosby extended his points streak to 22 games with a first-period goal Wednesday that sparked Pittsburgh to a 5-2 victory over Florida.

Pittsburgh won for the 14th time in 16 games.

Crosby scored the second of Pittsburgh's two goals in the third period, giving him 28 for the season. Mark Letestu and Matt Cooke also tallied in the opening stanza for the Penguins and Brent Johnson made 20 saves over the opening two periods.

Marc-Andre Fleury came on in the third period for Pittsburgh and made 15 saves.

Crosby's points streak equals the longest in the NHL over the last five seasons.

Tomas Vokoun started for Florida and allowed three goals in less than 11 minutes before being yanked for Scott Clemmensen. He finished up with 18 saves.

The Panthers had won their previous two games.
