COL FB: Virginia Tech 44, Florida State 33

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Tyrod Taylor's three touchdown passes and one scoring run Saturday brought No. 11 Virginia Tech the ACC championship with a 44-33 win over No. 20 Florida State.

Taylor expanded on a 21-17 halftime lead with third-quarter scoring throws of 45 yards to Danny Coale and 21 yards to David Wilson. He also had a touchdown pass of 19 yards to Jarrett Boykin in the second period and ran 5 yards for another score late in the third that gave the Hokies a 42-24 advantage.

Virginia Tech improved to 11-2, the 11 wins having come in succession, and captured its third conference title in the last four years. The Hokies thus earned a spot in the Orange Bowl.

Taylor was 18-of-28 for 263 yards. He did not throw an interception.

E.J. Manuel started at quarterback for Florida State in place of Christian Ponder and completed 23-of-31 passes for 288 yards. He was intercepted twice, one of which was brought back by Jeron Gouveia-Winslow for a first-period touchdown.

Ty Jones had three rushing touchdowns for Florida State (9-4).
