MLB: San Francisco 6, Philadelphia 5

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Juan Uribe's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning Wednesday gave San Francisco a 6-5 victory over Philadelphia and a 3-1 advantage in the NLCS.

The Giants twice lost the lead, but avoided what would have been the first extra-inning game of the 2010 playoffs by producing the winning run against Roy Oswalt.

San Francisco can earn its first World Series trip in eight years Thursday when the Giants host the Phillies in Game 6 of the best-of-seven series. Tim Lincicum will pitch for the Giants against Philadelphia's Roy Halladay in a matchup of superstars who faced each other in the series opener.

Philadelphia overcame an early 2-0 deficit with a four-run fourth and then, after again falling behind, tied it in the eighth on an RBI double from Jayson Werth.

With the score still tied going to the bottom of the ninth, Philadelphia Manager Charlie Manuel made the unusual move of bringing in Oswalt, who started and was the winning pitcher in the second game of the series.

Oswalt retired Freddy Sanchez to open the inning, but Aubrey Huff lined a single to right and went to third on another single to right by Buster Posey.

That brought up Uribe, who did not start the game because of a sore wrist but who entered the contest at shortstop in the top of the ninth. He launched a 1-2 pitch into medium deep left field and lifted his arms in triumph the second the ball left the bat, knowing he had hit it far enough to bring home Huff.

San Francisco closer Brian Wilson got the win after pitching the top of the ninth. Posey and Pablo Sandoval both drove in two runs for the Giants, who outhit the Phillies 11-9.
