SHANGHAI, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Roger Federer and Andy Murray earned finals slots at the Shanghai Masters with straight-set victories Saturday.

Federer, the world No. 3, broke Novak Djokovic's serve twice in a row in a 7-5, 6-4 win. Federer broke Djokovic's serve in the 11th game for the difference in the first set and again in the first game of the second set for an advantage there.

He added a third break to go up 4-1 in the second set, which gave him breathing room when Djokovic was later able to break his serve.

The No. 4-ranked Murray took out unseeded Juan Monaco 6-4, 6-1. He only got 49 percent of his first serves in, but won 20-of-22 points when he did. Even with the service problems -- he also had three double faults -- Murray only faced three break points, saving two. Monaco managed just seven points in the second set.

Murray owns a 7-5 edge over Federer in career meetings. Both of their matches this year have been in tournament finals, with Federer taking the Australian Open title in January and Murray winning the Masters event in Canada in August.

The winner of the Shanghai Masters will take the first-place check of $616,500 while the runner-up is compensated with $302,000. Djokovic and Monaco earned $151,800 for qualifying for the semifinals.
