Slocum's long putt nets McGladrey victory

SEA ISLAND, Ga., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Heath Slocum's 60-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole Sunday keyed his one-stroke victory at the McGladrey Classic in Georgia.

The long putt from off the 16th green enabled him to finish with a round of 2-under-par 68, one shot better than Bill Haas at 14-under 266 and good enough for his fourth PGA Tour win.

Haas hung tough, scoring an eagle on the 15th hole, but he ended with a 66 and finished one shot back at 13-under 267.

David Toms (68) bogeyed the 16th and 17th holes, falling short in his bid to corral his first win in nearly five years. Instead, he ended in a third-place tie with Robert Allenby (66) and Arjun Atwal (66) at 12-under 268.
