Slocum's 66 nets McGladrey Classic lead

SEA ISLAND, Ga., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Heath Slocum fired his third straight 4-under-par 66 Saturday, establishing a one-stroke lead after three rounds of the inaugural McGladrey Classic.

Slocum ended the day at 12-under 198, besting Joe Durant (68) and Troy Merritt (64) by a single shot after 54 holes of the second event in the PGA Tour fall series.

Slocum will seek to close out his fourth career title Sunday on the Seaside Course at Sea Island Resort.

David Toms, the leader after the second round, stumbled over the final 12 holes Saturday, which he completed at 2-over par. He carded an even-par 70 for the day to grab sole possession of fourth place at 10-under 200.

Bill Haas (65), Aron Price (66), Brian Stuard (67) and John Senden (67) were knotted for fifth place one shot further back at minus-9.
