POTOMAC, Md., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Russ Cochran, who had five consecutive birdies, shot a 6-under-par 64 Friday and moved into the lead of the Senior Players Championship in Maryland.
Cochran, who shot an even-par 70 Thursday with three birdies and three bogeys, didn't have a bogey Friday in going to 6-under 134 after 36 holes.
He holds a 1-stroke lead over Michael Allen, who shot 67 Friday, and is two up on Mark O'Meara, whose 68 Friday has him a 4-under 136.
Jeff Sluman (67 Friday) and first-round leader Tom Kite (70) are tied for fourth at 3-under 137.
Cochran had a birdie at the second hole and was still 1-under at the turn. But then he ran off five consecutive birdies from Nos. 10-14 to jump into the lead.
Allen had five birdies and two bogeys Friday. He bogeyed the par-4 fourth hole for the second consecutive round.
Kite battled through an up-and-down round that left his scorecard dotted with four birdies and four bogeys, including a bogey at No. 18.
