MLB: San Francisco 6, San Diego 1

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Tim Lincecum allowed one run over seven innings Sunday, helping San Francisco down San Diego 6-1 to pull into a virtual first-place tie with the Padres.

Lincecum (14-9) won his third straight September start, coming up big in a showdown for first place in the National League West. He limited the Padres to seven hits and a walk. His nine strikeouts put him atop the NL strikeout list with 208.

Buster Posey socked a two-run homer and Lincecum contributed a two-run single for the Giants, who posted their seventh win in nine games, including three of four from San Diego.

Padres starter Mat Latos (14-6) took the loss, yielding five runs on seven hits and two walks in just four innings, ending an MLB-record streak of giving up two or fewer runs for 15 straight starts.
