MLB: Boston 6, Seattle 3

BOSTON, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Marco Scutaro hit a pair of two-run singles and John Lackey tossed eight effective innings Monday to help the Boston Red Sox beat Seattle 6-3.

Scutaro put Boston ahead for good with a run-scoring hit in the fifth inning and drove in two runs with a seventh-inning single.

Lackey (12-7) struck out 10 Mariners over eight innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and a pair of walks.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched a scoreless ninth to rack up his 31st save of the season.

Seattle starter Doug Fister (4-9) was victimized by left fielder Ryan Langerhans' error, which led to three unearned runs in the fifth. Fister allowed six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
