MLB: San Francisco 5, Chicago Cubs 4

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Pat Burrell snapped a tie with an eighth-inning homer Wednesday, giving the San Francisco Giants a 5-4 win over the Chicago Cubs.

San Francisco twice let a lead get away before Burrell came through with a blast on a 1-2 pitch leading off the eighth against Justin Berg (0-1). It was Berg's first major league decision in 40 appearances scattered over two years.

Burrell drove in the winning run for the second straight game, having produced a sacrifice fly in the 11th inning Tuesday that gave the Giants a 4-3 decision over San Diego.

The home run against the Cubs was Burrell's 10th of the season and his eighth since he was obtained in a trade with Tampa Bay in June. Burrell also singled in two runs during a three-run first, but the Cubs came back to tie it in the sixth on an RBI single by Alfonso Soriano.

Aaron Rowand put San Francisco back in front with a homer in the sixth and the Cubs tied it again with a blast by Tyler Colvin in the seventh.

Burrell's homer made a winner out of Sergio Romo (5-3), who worked 1 1/3 innings of relief. Brian Wilson worked the ninth for his 33rd save.
