MLB: Florida 9, Washington 5

WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Rookie Mike Stanton had five hits for the first time in his career Wednesday and drove in four runs to lead Florida past Washington 9-5.

Washington scored seven times over the opening two innings, two of the runs coming on a double by Stanton during a four-run first. He also had an RBI, infield single in the second and a solo homer in the seventh.

Hanley Ramirez contributed a solo homer in the second and Logan Morrison had three hits and scored three times in what was Florida's third straight victory.

Ian Desmond hit two homers for the Nationals and Adam Dunn had one. Desmond has 31 home runs, tops in the National League.

Chris Volstad (6-8) gave up four runs on eight hits in five-plus innings, but still collected the victory. Scott Olsen (3-4) was roughed up for seven runs on eight hits in 1 2/3.
