MLB: LA Dodgers 3, N.Y. Mets 2 (13 inn.)

LOS ANGELES, July 24 (UPI) -- James Loney's homer in the 13th inning Saturday lifted the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-2 decision over the New York Mets.

After retiring Matt Kemp to lead off the 13th, Oliver Perez (0-4), the Mets' seventh pitcher, surrendered a home run to Loney, the Los Angeles first baseman's seventh round-tripper of the year.

Los Angeles had a chance to put the game away an inning earlier. Casey Blake singled and reached third base on pitcher Elmer Dessens' throwing error with no one out in the 12th, but the Dodgers stranded him there.

George Sherrill (1-1), the Dodgers' ninth hurler, picked up the win by tossing a scoreless top of the 13th. Los Angeles starter Carlos Monasterios threw five shutout innings to begin the game.

Jose Reyes collected a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Mets, who lost for the eighth time in 10 games since the All-Star break.
