NHL: New York Islanders 5, Vancouver 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 17 (UPI) -- Rookie John Tavares tallied two goals and three assists Tuesday to lead the New York Islanders past Vancouver 5-2.

Dwayne Roloson turned in 35 saves and Matt Moulson added a goal and an assist.

The Canucks saw their seven-game home winning streak come to an end despite goals from Kyle Wellwood and Alexandre Burrows. Roberto Luongo gave up four goals on 12 shots over two periods and was replaced by Andrew Raycroft in the third. Raycroft made seven saves.

The Islanders took a 1-0 lead at 6:22 of the first period on Dylan Reese's first NHL goal. Tavares then scored a power-play goal and Moulson made it 3-0 at 15:30 of the second period.

The Canucks battled back with two quick goals to make it 3-2 late in the second but Freddy Meyer was credited with a goal on a shot by Tavares that bounced off his leg and into the net at 19:52.

Tavares closed out the scoring with an empty net goal as time ran out in the third period.
