NHL: Boston 2, Ottawa 0

OTTAWA, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Tim Thomas recorded a 29-save shutout Monday, his fourth of the season, leading the Boston Bruins to a 2-0 whitewash of the Ottawa Senators.

Patrice Bergeron and Marco Sturm each lit the lamp for the Bruins, who snapped a four-game losing streak.

While Thomas and Ottawa goalie Brian Elliott dueled through the first two periods, Bergeron drew first blood for Boston 3:19 into the third when he pounced on the rebound of a Shawn Thornton shot and put it past Elliott.

Boston then made it 2-0 when Marc Savard found Sturm with a pass at center ice, producing a breakaway score.

Elliott turned aside 27-of-29 shots for the Senators.
