RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Washington's Nicklas Backstrom scored twice and the Capitals held on behind Jose Theodore's goaltending Monday to edge Carolina 3-2.
Backstrom knocked in a goal to tie the score in the first period and then connected on a backhand shot to give the Caps a two-goal lead in the second.

Eric Fehr also scored for Washington, which has won three straight games.
Theodore turned away 38 shots.
Washington star Alex Ovechkin suffered a knee injury and was helped off the ice in the first period.
Joe Corvo scored in the first period and Matt Cullen added a goal with 16 seconds left in the game for Carolina, which has lost five games in a row.
Hurricanes goalie Michael Leighton stopped 30 shots.
