MLB: Chicago White Sox 5, LA Angels 4

CHICAGO, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Scott Podsednik's RBI single with two out in the ninth Tuesday gave the Chicago White Sox a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Kevin Jepsen (3-3) struck out Carlos Quentin and got Chris Getz on a ground out but Jayson Nix doubled and Podsednik lined a single to center to drive in Nix with the winning run.

Matt Thornton (6-2) got the win after pitching 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief for the White Sox, who won for the fourth time in their last five games.

Gordon Beckham hit a solo homer and finished with two RBI, and Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin each drove in a run for Chicago.

Los Angeles scored three in the third to take a 3-2 lead. White Sox starter Jose Contreras let a run in with a bases-loaded wild pitch and Bobby Abreu followed with a two-run single. Abreu also drove in a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly for the Angels, who had a five-game winning streak snapped.
