Nadal, Murray advance to fourth round

MIAMI, March 30 (UPI) -- World No. 1 superstar Rafael Nadal and U.S. Open runner-up Andy Murray were third-round winners Monday at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

Nadal, the 2005 and 2008 Miami runner-up, beat Portuguese qualifier Frederico Gil 7-5, 6-3 in 1 hour, 35 minutes to improve to 23-2 for the year.

Nadal, 22, is reigning Australian Open, Wimbledon and French Open champion and winner last week at Indian Wells, Calif. He was last year's runner-up to Russian Nikolay Davydenko and to Roger Federer in 2005.

Murray improved to 21-2 this season by beating Chilean Nicolas Massu 6-4, 6-4.

The eventual winner of this 12-day $4.5 million tournament will collect $605,500.

Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro moved into the fourth round by defeating Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 6-4, 6-1 and Spaniard David Ferrer beat Croat Marin Cilic 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
