It was Carolina's third straight loss.

Heatley scored 3:45 into the game and Dean McAmmond recorded an unassisted goal to give the Senators a 2-0 lead after one period.

Although he surrendered five goals, Cam Ward made 40 saves in losing his third straight start. It was his highest single-game save total since stopping 57 shots against the New York Islanders in October.

Mike Fisher gave Ottawa a 4-1 lead in the third period. The goal came in his 500th career game. He is sixth on the Senators all-time games played list.
