MLB: Toronto 6, Tampa Bay 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Vernon Wells homered and had three RBI Tuesday, triggering the Toronto Blue Jays' 6-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Roy Halladay (16-9) allowed two runs on six hits over six innings for the Blue Jays, who have won nine of their last 13 games. Lyle Overbay added two RBI for Toronto.

Eric Hinske drove in both runs for Tampa Bay. The Rays lead in the American League East is 3 1/2 games over the Boston Red Sox.

James Shields (11-8) suffered the loss after giving up four runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Tampa Bay starting catcher Dioner Navarro left the game in the seventh inning with a leg injury.
