Stricker takes 3-shot lead at Barclays

PARAMUS, N.J., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Steve Stricker held the halfway lead in The Barclays Golf Tournament in Paramus, N.J., Friday at 10-under-par 132, three strokes ahead of Hunter Mahan.

Stricker, the defending champion, fired a 7-under-par 64 in the second round and Mahan, the opening-round leader, dropped to a 73 to stand at 7-under 135.

Kenny Perry (67), former U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera (67) and Dudley Hart (69)) shared third place at 6-under. Anthony Kim (67), Sergio Garcia (67), Kevin Streelman (70) and Paul Casey (71) were next at 5-under.

Several players in the tournament, including Stricker and Mahan, are battling to earn spots on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Garcia and Casey are trying to make the European cup team.

"I've got two tournaments going on within one," Stricker said.

Players missing the cut included British Open champion Padraig Harrington, former Masters winner Zach Johnson, former PGA champion David Toms and Adam Scott.
